Paint Pan Colors

We see paint on everything and everywhere. Painting is one of the most popular home repairs made by home owners and renters. But what is this stuff? How many types of paint are available in the market? Which one is the best for home painting? It all can be a confusing factor that’s why many people take the decision on price.

Here I am going to explain some of the basics about paint.

Types of Paint:

1. Water Based and Mineral Spirit Based

Basically all paints fall under two solvent categories which define their type; mineral spirit based (known as paint thinner) or water based. These paints are referred to as oil based paint (alkyd) or latex based paint (water thinned).

Latex paint is the most common and environmentally responsible providing for soap and water clean up. These paints dry faster and have less odor from VOC’s (volatile organic compounds).

2. Latex Paint (Water Based Paint)

It is the most common type of paint for home use. Reasons are:

* It has soap and water clean up
* Environment friendly
* Excellent performance
* Flexible so it withstands movement
* Can prevent mildew and moisture
* Fast drying
* Extensive color selections and paint sheens

You can use water based latex paint in almost any application in the home, from exterior paint and trim, to interior walls and woodwork.

3. Alkyd Based Paint (Oil Based Paint)

It is not commonly used in home painting applications. It used to be that these paints were the standard for bathrooms and other high traffic or wet areas since they were easy to scrub, had a higher sheen and were more durable. Now that is no longer true and many latex paints equal or even outperform alkyd based paints because of the other benefits of latex paint.

Alkyd paints, when used in the home, are most commonly used for areas having high wear or prone to impact. These include trim, floors and sometimes cabinets.

Some disadvantages of alkyd paint include:

* It is more expensive than latex paint
* Odor intensive when drying and gives off VOC’s (volatile organic compounds).
* To clean it requires chemical solvent using mineral spirits (paint thinner)

Rubber base paint

Rubber base paint

Rubberbase Paint are available only in a limited number of colors and in flat or low-gloss finishes. This type of paint contains a liquefied rubber. It is expensive and has a potent aroma. Rubber base paint is waterproof and durable. It is an excellent coating for concrete. It can be applied directly to unprimed masonry.

When used on brick, rubberbase paint should be preceded by a sealing coat of clear varnish. Before putting it on new concrete, wash the concrete with a 10 percent solution of muriatic acid, rinse thoroughly, and let dry completely. You should wear goggles and gloves when working with muriatic acid. Work in a well-ventilated space. Like alkyds, rubberbase paints require special solvents.

Bathroom Ceiling

Bathroom Ceiling

Bathroom ceiling and walls are differ from other paintable surfaces in the home. Steam from bathing carries particles of dirt and soap in the air. These particles stick to the ceiling as the water vapor condenses. In some cases this causes the growth of mildew, peeling paint, water mark, darkening the surface. Never paint a bathroom ceiling or wall without preparing it. No matter how clean it appears to be.

Some Effective Tips Are Given Below..

1. You can use a fine-grit sandpaper to gently buff the edges of the peeling paint. Scrape all over the wall until the edge is well blended with the surface of the wall. Scrape any areas that are bubbling. Do not gouge the wall underneath the paint with the scraper.

2. Clean the walls and ceiling completely. Make them smooth. Then remove dust & debris from the wall & ceiling surface with a specially formulated paint detergent.

3. By spraying a weak solution remove remaining mildew. Stains of diluted bleach water onto the spots. Bleach in a cup of hot water will break up the stain. Rinse with hot water to remove any remaining residue. Allow the ceiling & walls to dry completely.

4. Allow paint to dry and apply a second coat if required.

5. Apply an oil-based, stain-killing primer coat to all areas that have been sanded and cleaned. Allow the primer to cure completely before painting.

6. Make sure the new paint matches the existing color before applying it to the walls or ceilings. Mix the paint properly before applying. You can use a sponge brush, dab paint onto the area that has been sanded.

7. After this coat dries, use a roller to apply another coat over the first. Use a slightly dry roller so the edges blend together. Repeat this step, if necessary.

1. Latex paint

The word “latex” referred to the use of rubber transform to an another as the resin, or solid, in paint. If any surface is painted with latex paint previously then next time it works gentle on the surface. It can even be used on unprimed drywall.
